Lifting a 48T bridge on to a pontoon

Lifting Bridge onto Pontoon

The challenge

The Steenhuisenbrug (a 48T bridge) is being refurbished and that's not happening on site. The bridge will be disconnected and replaced by a temporary pedestrian bridge. The bridge will then be moved to another location to undergo its refurbishment. The challenge lies in the fact that the location is in a busy residential area and there is no possibility to install a mobile crane.

The Situation/Circumstances

Under the bridge a pontoon was placed with parts of the Enerpac hydraulic lifting portal on both sides. The bridge was attached to the head beams of the portal by placing slings. Then the bridge was lifted using the wireless controller. On the pontoon the bridge then started its journey through the busy residential area. About 100 meters further there was the possibility to use a crane and that happened. The refurbishment takes about 6 weeks.
